Game Night Central is Moving!

On June 1st, the Cape May County Library will be uploading its brand new web site! The URL won't change, but with it comes several new additions that make it WAY better than the current one we've got. But what does this mean to you, our loyal gamers? It means you get a brand new website, too, devoted ENTIRELY to Game Night stuff!

Here's the new URL: CLICK HERE!

The new site will feature more updated game-related news articles, reviews, tips and tricks, and generally anything pertaining to gaming that we feel like putting up! We'll still have our schedule and tournament notifications on the site, but expect it to have a newer, sleeker look... We hope you enjoy it as much as we will, and thanks for continuing to make Game Night the awesome program that it is!

No Game Night Next Week!

Next Monday is Memorial Day, so the Cape May County Library won't be open to host Game Night. Sorry, folks. Have a nice one, and we'll see you on June 1st!

Guitar Hero: World Tour Tournament!

Sorry for the late notice, folks, but there's a Guitar Hero: World Tour tournament coming up on May 16, 2009, from 12:00 - 4:00! This is our very first Guitar Hero: World Tour tournament, but it won't be identical to the Rock Band tournaments we usually hold...

Since songs don't exist on the same kind of tier arrangement that Rock Band uses, we're going to award points on the following aspects of your performance...

- Up to 100 points per band member will be awarded based on your percentage of notes hit, equaling a grand total of 400.
- Up to 15 points per band member will be awarded based on stage presence, equaling a grand total of 60.
- Up to 5 points per band member will be awarded based on difficulty level. 1 point for Beginner, 2 points for Easy, 3 points for Medium, 4 points for Hard, and 5 points for Expert, equaling a grand total of 20.
- Up to 20 points total will be awarded based on the point total of all players at the end of the song. 5 points will be awarded for every 100,000 points earned by the end of the song, up to a value of 20 points total.

Keep in mind, too, that if any of your bandmates fails out of a song, the entire band fails! Unless it's caused by technical difficulties, there will be no second chances to try a song when the tournament begins, so make sure you don't pick a difficulty that's too high!

No registration is necessary, but you need a band of four people to compete. Depending on the number of bands that show up, every group will be able to pick 2-3 songs (no retries), and their top score will be compared to every other band's scores! There's no prize for this tournament, but it's going to be fun, anyway. Come prove your worth as a rocker, and may the best band win!

Promotional Video!

We are looking for actors…

We here at the Cape May County Library are working on a video project for the New Jersey State Library and the New Jersey Library Association. Our task is to make a three minute promotional video. We've decided to promote video games in libraries.

We are looking for anyone interested in taking on the role of people playing games; the same thing that people who come to our Game Night do so well just about every week. If anyone is interested we will have some forms for you to have your parents or guardians to sign at the next Game Night as well as at the main desk. Parents are welcome to take part in the video too.
We will be giving more information on when we will be filming after we get an idea of how many of you will be helping out.

If your parents have any questions or concerns regarding the project, they can contact the Technology Librarian, Lisa Marie, at 609.463.6380.

You can also check out the State Library’s contest page, http://www.solvinglifesproblems.org/.

April 10th, 17th, and 18th!

I've got good news, and I've got bad news, gaming fanatics. On Friday, April 10th, the Cape May County Library will be closed while observing Good Friday...so that means no Game Night this Friday... Nothing we can do about that one, folks.

However...there's a glimmer of hope in the future! On Saturday, April 18th, we'll be hosting our first ever...

Street Fighter IV Tournament!

Ladies and gentlemen, this game is EPIC. If you were a fan of Street Fighter II or just love balanced, impressive-looking fighting games, you've got to compete in our first of probably many Street Fighter IV tournaments to come. Prizes will be given to first, second, and third place winners, and there's no cost to compete! Just bring your game (as in skills, not the actual game!), pick your fighter, and let the battle commence.

Just check out these sweet screenshots! Click on any of the images below to see a larger version.

So yeah...it's going to be epic, and you should definitely attend. This does mean, however, that there's no Game Night next Friday, April 17th either...but a tournament's just as fun. As usual, we'll be running the rest of our normal Game Night games before and after the tournament. No sign-ups are required, but there is a limit of 32 participants, so show up on Saturday and we'll start making up the brackets.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately, too, but your Game Night Crew's been really busy trying to provide the best programs we can for you! Stay tuned for more updates.

Game Night's Back, Baby!

Game Night's been away for a little while so the Cape May County Library could get some new computer software and train its staff, but now we're back! There's no Game Night on Friday, March 20th, however...

...We're kicking things off again with a Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament on Saturday, March 21st from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM!

You can sign up for it by calling 463-6350 and saying, "I'm going to own everyone at Brawl on Saturday!"...or by just saying you'd like to sign up for the tournament...(but what's the fun in that?)

Registration's free and it's open to all ages! No prizes this time, but you might as well just come to have fun...and get bragging rights for destroying everyone else, of course.

Be there, or be a n00b.
